WYDT vs. of vs. Batnabas

I want to use a name that honors the name Barnabas on my daughter. I feel like God wants me to. So, on my last poll, someone suggested this name, and I love it! It means "daughter of encouragement". What do you think of it? I was thinking of using Betty or maybe Babby as a nickname.

Glad you liked my suggestion :)
It definitely isn't an easy name, but if you feel a calling and a connection, I wouldn't give up on that because of others, especially as the name does have a good meaning. She can definitely go by nicknames and she'd have many options at that too, including "professional ones".
I have a long rather unusual name (it is a feminine form of a more common name) and I've always gone by nicknames. I confess I never quite loved the sound of my full name, but I love my nicknames, and I always get a reaction - usually a good one.
In short, I don't think one should conform to your everyday common names- by experience, and from others with quite unusual names - people get used to it, they do. And in the process, you bring light to a name that deserves to shine.

That name would be butchered all the time. She'd always be spelling, respelling, pronouncing, re-pronouncing, etc. Please put your future child's sanity over your desire to be creative.

Guest, no, I'm not trolling. I feel like the Lord wants me to honor the name Barnabas. You have the right to your opinion, but don't accuse me of pranking anyone please.

Thanks again Guest! (The one who originally suggested this) I'm thinking of nicknames too! Yes, I do feel a calling to honor Barnabas. I think I could come up with some great ones. Do you have any suggestions?

I certainly understand what you mean BabyTime, but, this name is only 1 letter off of Barnabas. Doesn't that make it not too hard? What do you think?

Thanks for the help so far everyone!

Use

Barbara
Bernice
Barrie
Brenda
Bridget
Brielle
Brianna
Bryony
Briar
Brooke
Brooklyn
Brenna

Any of these would honour Barnabas as they all start with the Br ending or contain similar letters. Give your daughter a real name that people will be able to spell and pronounce otherwise you will just be giving her a headache for her entire life.

Batnabas... is a real name. I do still like Barnabea, though I suppose the 'bar'=son part wouldnt make much sense. Batnabea is also an option, the feminine form of Barnaby(which I love!)
Nava is definitely my other favorite from before, if you're still considering other options, this being one of the more "chill" ones. Could also work a nickname (Nava is another form of -nabas)

I like Betty, sweet and vintage, 'professional'
Bea, like I said before. Especially if you do Batnabea/Barnabea, though it can work with any version. A short, sweet and girly middle name would balance it out nicely. (I'm stuck on that Bea Rose idea!)
Attie - like Addie
Nan
Abby

That's about all I can think of!

There are better ways to honor Barnabas, which is an odd name on its own. Batnabas will only lead your daughter to a lifetime of ridicule and bullying and constantly having to correct people. What about Bernadette or Babette?

Bethnava? I don't think it is technically a real name, but it takes the Nava from Nabas and still starts with a B. And she can go by Beth, Betty, Bet, Bess, Bessy, Betsy, or Navi. :)

Not sure about Batnabas. Let me come up with some better alternatives for you.

The Biblical Barnabas was born as Joseph, and the feminine form of Joseph is Josephine. That could be a way to honor Barnabas.

Another alternative would be Bathsheba; in the Bible, she's the mother of Solomon. I actually thought of Bathsheba when I saw Batnabas.

Other feminine Biblical names that start with B: Bilhah, Beulah, Basemath, Bernice, and Bithiah.
