Adelaida "Lady" vs. Adelaide "Aida"
My husband and I decided on the name Adelaida for our daughter! After we chose her name we started calling her baby lady. We had decided that her nick name would be Aida (like the last 4 letters of her name) but now that we call her Lady I can't imagine calling her anything else! Could Lady be her nick name or should we call her Aida and use Lady only at home? Also does she need a middle name? We both feel like Adelaida is so long on it's own it doesn't need one! Thanks for the advice!

I would only use Lady as a family nickname. I like Adelaide not really keen on Aida/Ada. I like middle names just because it gives your child one more option of a name if she doesn't like your choice or the nicknames that go with it.

I wouldn't use Lady outside the family. If you do, I might try to spell it Laidey like the end of her name. I prefer Adelaide to any of the possible nicknames - especially dislike Addy/Addie. Yes, I would still give a middle name, just because it's kind of odd not to have one. There are plenty of nice short middle names:
Adelaide Eve
Adelaide Ruth
Adelaide Joy
Adelaide Ruby
Adelaide Ivy
Adelaide Pearl
Adelaide June
Adelaide Rose
Adelaide Eve
Adelaide Ruth
Adelaide Joy
Adelaide Ruby
Adelaide Ivy
Adelaide Pearl
Adelaide June
Adelaide Rose

Lady is so cute! But I agree, I would only use it around family. As far as picking a nickname goes, you don't have to worry about that now. You will naturally start calling her a nickname as time progresses. No need to select one now. You could also call her both nicknames! I have a lot of them.

I like the idea of giving children middle names because official forms often ask for them, and it's nice to have another name for the child to go by if the child later decides that she wants to use something other than her first name (my dad goes by his middle name most of the time because it's shorter than his first name and people remember it better, he was named after a relative and there was a lot of confusion when he was growing up). If you give Adelaida a middle name, I think a short one would be best. Someone listed a few short, one-syllable names above that are good, and I'd like to second their recommendations.

Adelaida nn Lady is lovely for home and nn Ada is beautiful for everyday. And, no, a middle name is never necessary - Adelaida is definitely enough! GL.
