Pepita, on her own vs. Pepita, short for...
Fallen for Pepita (pep-PEE-ta)! Traditionally, it's a Spanish + Italian short form of the Joseph + Co. names, but I'm not overly thrilled about Josephine, Josefina, Josepha, or Giuseppina—Pepita, on the other hand, I think is gorgeous and happy (nn Pip, Pep, Peppy, Pepper, Pita, Pippa!). The association with pumpkin seeds doesn't particularly bother me, especially since food names are all the boho rage… ;) What do you think? Do you think by sound it could be short for anything else? (I thought Penelope/Persephone, but I'm not sure I love either of those!) Thank you!🌻

Pepita is so cute! And Pepper is definitely a grown-up nickname if at any point Pepita feels too cute.

Pepita is more Spanish. I'm Italian and most people I know are PeppINA or Pina, short for "Giuseppina".
Pepita is darling. But it needs a full name. I sometimes wonder if others pronounce Josepha the same way as I do. I don't care for "jo-SEEF-uh," but I love "jo-SEFF-uh." Not sure if that makes a difference for you or not. Just putting it out there.
With a little imagination and courage:
Perdita ("PUR-di-tuh"), Perpetua, Epiphany, Phaedra, Pearl, Philippa, Septima ("SEP-ti-muh"), Parthenope, Stephanie, Concepta, Philadelphia, Ophelia, Portia, Eponine, Hepzibah, Nephele, Zephyrine, Petra / Petronella / Petronilla
Good luck! :0)

I don't care for this name or any of the nicknames. Pippa is the prettiest nickname if I had to pick one.

Personally this name makes me laugh and I can't take it seriously at all. The nicknames are so childish and silly. Sounds more like a pet name.

Italian as well :)
I had a good friend growing up who was Giuseppina, "Pepita!"
Thank you for your comments + sweet suggestions! I have such a soft spot for Philadelphia, just not sure if I'll ever be brave enough to use it! And Eponine! My musical theatre heart! Thank you x

That's fair. What a great world we live in where people get to have individual opinions! Personally, don't see anything childish about Pepita but I guess I grew up hearing tons of names with similar rhythm! A little bit of silliness is always welcome over here :)

I think Pepita is darling. There is nothing wrong with using it. I say go for it. Why have a longer name you are never going to use.

Poppy or Posy nn Pepita
^ Also, Apolline, Apollonia, Esperanza, Paloma, Peta, Pilar or Pomona - GL!
Pepita is 3 syllables and 6 letters long. It's a full name to me. It wouldn't be short for anything. I would just use it as is.

I wouldn't use it as a full name. If you don't like the usual Giuseppina/Josephina names (I personally don't either), I would use Pia or Pippa as her real name and Pepita as nn

I also like Poppy as a "full" name, as suggested by another commenter 🙂
