Carys vs. Karis vs. Karys
Sort of partial to Karys as it most closely resembles my mother's name, though I do know Karys is not going to win out here. I'm trying to decide how I feel about this name. I intuitively pronounce it "ka-RISS," like the beginning of Carissa or "caress" with an 'i.' (Most usually I see "pronounced like Paris not Care-iss," but to me Care-iss is like Paris so!) What do you think over all as well xxxx

This name reminds me of care less. But I would pick Carys I guess. With a k looks silly.

The K does not bother me. I do pronounce it like Care-iss, to rhyme with Paris, though.

There's a name from Greek mythology, Kharis, that could work! It's the name of one of the Kharites, or the Graces. I think modern Greek has it spelt Charis, and Kharites to Charites, but they also changed the ancient Kalliope to Calliope, so the K *is* a legitimate spelling. You still might get people thinking you're trying to Kardashianize the name, but it it *is* a real spelling!

Carys is the pronunciation I would have used if it had been our final selection. I like the Welsh spelling and meaning. I once had a student Charis (same pronunciation) but that spelling just looked like a typo of the word chairs to me. I know of another Charis who pronounces is car-iss. I would say care-iss and rhymes with Paris are the same pronunciation. While I like Carys best, I don't really mind it as Karys. I knew a Maris (rhymes with Carys) so I do think the Karis could work, but in order of preference:
1. Carys
2. Karys
3. Karis
1. Carys
2. Karys
3. Karis

Carys is Welsh. It means beloved. "Improving" the spelling takes away from the charm of it. There's also Charis, a Greek name meaning graceful, with the same pronunciation.
I suppose you could make an educated argument that a Greek name could be spelled with a K rather than a CH because of their lettering system (kappa for K). I'll give you that. But altering the pronunciation of an existing name is mindboggling to me. It 's like naming a child Caroline and pronouncing it, "kare-O-line."
I speak as a name nerd of course -- one who has seen a lovely traditional Welsh / Greek name come out of obscurity. I'd hate to see the pronunciation of it / them altered. Good luck! :0)
