Eloise vs. Wheeze

I have always adored the names Eloise & Eloisa. I think they're so beautiful and feminine and elegant and princessy. My husband just told me that he thinks they sound too much like "wheeze." What do y'all think?

The name Eloise is pretty

I like Eloise. I can hear wheeze a little more in Eloisa, but I don't think it was noticeable enough to catch my ear until you said something. As far as Eloise goes, in my mind it has always been el-o-iz (IPA) with each sound kind of separated or the emphasis being on the 'iz' sound so that I don't get that w sound in there.

You sort of get wheeze out of both of them. I don't think it is that big of a deal.

Both names do contain that "wheeze" sound (ell-oh-weez and ell-oh-weez-uh), personally I think the name is still pretty. But if your husband doesn't like that it contains that sound consider giving suggestions of names similar to either one like Elodie, Eleanor, Elenora, Ellis, Elise, Elisa or Elsie.

I love Eloise. I would have never thought that.

I hadn't thought of it before. Yes you can sort of hear it if you're looking for it, but it's not so obvious she'd get teased for it. But if it's going to bother your husband don't use it. My husband had the crazy notion of hearing death in Meredith and even though I couldn't see that at all, we still nixed the name on account of his opinion. Maybe your husband would like Elowen or Melody instead?

On the t.v. show The Jeffersons, Louise Jefferson was oftentimes called "Weezie" by her husband, George. Both Eloise & Eloisa are beautiful, but due to how a lot of people pronounce these names, there's just no getting around the "wheeze." GL!
