Cal vs. Kal
So here is my dilemma...ever since I was about 15 years old I dreamed of having a son named Cal. I am pregnant with a baby boy and I still want to name him Cal 12 years later! My problem is my last name is Pattie. Pronounced like the name Patty. I am afraid people will call him Cow Patty in school. What do ya'll think? I thought about spelling it with a K to divert the cow reference.
The Top Baby Name is...
Cal Pattie
Kal Pattie

Sorry but I'd definitely find something else. If just 1 kid makes that connection, especially in high school, he'll be the school loser just because of his name. Unfortunately names you love aren't always the names you should use.
I've always loved the name Audrey ever since my teens and I finally had a little girl in 2015(our second to youngest child and only daughter), but my husband really wanted to give her the middle name Suzana after his mom who passed in 2013. And our surname is Scott.. Audrey Suzana Scott, what would those initials be? Needless to say, I decided to be selfless and not force my daughter into a possible life of ridicule for something she had no say in and especially something I was well aware of from day one. We ended up naming her Mallory instead.

I like Calvin or Callen.
I just graduated high school in 2017.. No one had their name made fun of. Maybe I just went to a nice high school? Idk. But I don't think its that big of a deal

I would find something similar that doesn't start with C. Like Mal, Mel, Will, Val, Joel, Dal.. or if you just like how simple and short it is maybe something like Jude, Ren, Tate, Lane, Zane, Dane, Quinn, Finn.

Same poster as above,
although I like it with a C better, if you name him Kalvin/Kallen/Kallum Pattie, that will definately farther divert the cow patty thing.
at that point i definately wouldnt worry about it.
Good luck with whatever you choose!

Spelling names incorrectly often makes you look illiterate. I wouldn't solve the problem by using a k. It looks silly.

Are you married? If not then your last name and his would be different, so not an issue. If Pattie is your married last name, then I'd use a longer name for Cal, like
Calvin, Calvert, Calhoun, Callahan.
Another option would be to hyphenate his last name so it would be your maiden name and husband's last name. I think this would be a headache though and would opt for one of the other options.
