Xavier vs. Zavier

My husband and I love the name Xavier (pronounced zay-vier). We are thinking we should spell it with a Z to ensure the proper pronounciation. What do you think?

keep it with the traditional spelling of Xavier. Zavier looks odd to me.

I know a few boys with this name spelled with a X and a Z, I prefer Xavier and don’t think people will mispronounce it.

I like it with the X better, and i pn it right seeing it like that.

I thought Xavier was pronounced (ex-za-vier) that’s why I think Zavier if you want it pronounced that way

I have to agree with Jillibell. I used to pronounce ex-za-vier until someone corrected me. Zavier will insure any mispronuciations, and it also looks better!

I have always heard it to be ex-za-vier (like the cabbage patch kid guy:) I think Zavier is a good idea or it will always be pronounced wrong.

Xavier is NOT pronounced zay-veer...if you want to mispronounce it go ahead and misspell it too.

Actually Xavier IS pronounced zay-veer. In the english language when a word beginning with X is followed by a vowel sound, it automatically takes on the Z pronounciation. For example Xerox (not pronounced ex-erox), Xylophone (not pronounced ex-ylophone), Xander , Xena and so on......however since most people lack this basic bit of english grammer, go with Zavier to save yourself the hassel!

Zavier spelled with a Z will make it more likely to be pronounced Zay as opposed to Ex. Plus less people spell it that way, which is cooler IMO.
