Yes, it's nice vs. No, childish

We want our daughter's middle name to be Eilish after Billie Eilish, because we are big fans, but we've been told that it's childish and weird. What do you think? I really like the sound of it but I also know that she could get teased because Eilish sounds similar to "eyelash." Thanks for the help.

It is weird imo. I assume you've not actually ever met Billie Eilish, and your daughter likely never will either. It's different if the parents know the namesake on a personal level even if the child will not. But if no one knows the namesake on a personal level and you're only naming her after someone you're just a fan of with no personal connection, it's weird. Especially with such an already-outlandish name like Eilish. What about Isla for the middle name? Still similar to Eilish by having the same sound as the EIL- beginning but isn't as weird sounding and is directly connected to some newly popular music artist that none of you know personally or likely have ever met/will ever meet.

Agree with above. Not a fan of the name in general and cannot get over it being so similar to eyelash. My family and I joke around and call her Billie Eyelash. I do think she is a talented artist and if you want to honor her, thats fine. However, I think you should find a better way to honor her.

How about her initials--Brielle Evangeline or Brenna Eve

Her first outbreak song is Ocean Eyes, so maybe something relating to the ocean-Meredith (guardian of the seas), Coraline, Oceana or Athena (God of the Sea)

Something similar to her name: Isla, Eilee/Aylee, Alisha/Elisha, Lillie, Nellie, Ellie or Brinley

I don't think that it's appropriate to name your child after a singer imo. It's not nice to the child, either. She won't want to say her middle names to her friends. Also, you should have some respect for Billie Eilish. You may think that she would like it, but pop singers don't like it when people copy there names. Someone named there kid Shakira and Shakira the singer wasn't happy about that. Billie Eilish is her own unique name and I don't think it's right to copy it.

It's not my personal favorite name, but I totally think it's fine to use! Eilish (or Eilis) is an established name (not like the singer is the only person to ever be named this). If you love it, go for it!

Eilish reminds me of Isla and Aisling, maybe you would like those? Or you could use Billie.

I don't actually agree with "Brynn." Giving her the middle name Eilish would not be copywriting Billie Eilish's name, because it's only her middle name. If you named her Billie Eilish, that would be copying. But Eilish has a history and a meaning, and Billie's not the only one with this name. I also think this name is really cool and nice and your daughter will be lucky to have this as her middle name.

Not a fan, sorry. It will always be weird when parents name their children after celebrities especially if they have never met said celebrity. My sister also named her son Zayn after Zayn Malek, who was her favorite One Direction member when she was like 15, and I just don't understand why. Yeah One Direction was great and I used to be a mega fan of the boyband too but neither of us have ever met any members so what exactly is the connection to them besides just being a fan? Now she wants to name her new daughter Dua after Dua Lipa because that's her husband's celebrity crush.

I can imagine it might be kinda creepy for celebrities to hear random strangers, even if they are fans, named their children directly and openly after them. It would be creepy for me if I ever found out. It does seem like a childish/immature thing to saddle your kid with their whole life to me, sorry.

Hey everyone! Thanks for all the comments and opinions. They were very helpful. We also just wanted to let you all know that she wouldn't only be named after Billie Eilish, but also because we really like this name and I hope it doesn't seem like we are trying to copy her name. She is a very talented artist and we love the name Eilish, so instead of looking at it as if we are copying her name, why not look at it as though we are honoring her? But everyone is entitled to their own opinion and thank you to everyone who is helping us.

I actually have always like Eilish and have never associated it with eyelash.
I think you should go ahead and use it. It is not a real familiar name. Sometimes it takes people to warmup to them. Because of Billie Eilish it is apt to become more familiar. It definitely doesn't sound childish.

I think you'll regret it honestly.
Your kid will probably get made fun of, it's unfortunate but it's the truth.

Well it is an actual name so do whatever you want but I agree, I do think you will regret it.

I'd keep it a middle name if you do really want to use Eilish. Otherwise, use Billie.

Research her and be sure she has a clean background before committing. No skeletons in her closet.
