Eleanor nn Lenny vs. Yes use it vs. No dont use it
PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE VOTING!! We wanted to give you all a little background before you voted so sorry in advance for the long description. We also want to note that our first born is Olivia nn Ollie. My partner and I are wanting to use a girly name that has a spunky and almost boyish nickname. Eleanor nn Lenny is one of our options however on our previous poll someone mentioned an issue we might face. They said that they worry Eleanor might end up going by Ellie, which is of course too similar to Ollie. As much as we like Lenny we cannot anticipate what they will want to be called when they are older. I agree with this but my husband said that by the time Eleanor will go by Ellie, Olivia will be going by Liv. So their family names will be Ollie and Lenny, and their school names will be Liv and Ellie. The problem is we dont know this for sure. Ollie could stick with her name and Lenny might want to go by Ellie. Of course this is all just guessing but it is definitely something to think about. Do you think we should scratch Eleanor nn Lenny because of the Ellie and Ollie issue? The other names on our list are Makenna nn Kenny / Max and Scarlett nn Scout / Scottie / Scotty. We are thinking we should scrap Eleanor and use another option. We have no idea though so would absolutely love some advice. Thank you so much!!
The Top Baby Name is...
Eleanor nn Lenny
Yes use it
No dont use it

As much as I love Eleanor with the nickname Lenny I do think it is too risky with the Ollie and Ellie issue. Olivia and Scarlett nn Ollie and Scottie are so cute together!

I think Eleanor is gorgeous and Lenny is an adorable nickname for it, but if they will just end up going by Ollie and Ellie, than I don't think it's worth it. I named my daughter Elsie because I loved the nickname CC, but now she just goes by Elle. Makenna nn Kenny and Olivia would be great! GL!

I honestly don't think it will be an issue. Even if she hates Lenny for some reason she should go by Nora or Ella or even a double barrel name such as Ellie Mae depending on what her middle name is. Also I only think people will try to shorten it to Ellie if she introduces herself as Eleanor instead on Lenny but even then I don't think it would be an issue because It's like Elizabeth yes El is the first part of the name but there are so many acceptable nicknames that I would ask them instead of assume. I think Olivia is by far more likely to become Liv then Eleanor is Ellie.

Also if you are really concerned about it you could just use Lenore pronounced just like Eleanor without the E, Len would be the first part or her name instead of Elle making Lenny the obvious nickname choice.

My name is Eleanor and I think my parents chose Ellie a say nickname, but if I about knew other nicknames like Lenny, I would have totally gone for that. I think that if she chose to go by Ellie then then you could still call her Lenny at home, like you said. I don't think it matters. I also like Makenna nn Kenny.

Olivia and Eleanor are not too close. If the nicknames end up being close due to their choosing, then so be it. YOU are not choosing for them to be too close and so I don't think you need to be too concerned. If there's something you like just as well that doesn't have this potential issue, then great. But if this is your top pick, go for it. I am usually a real stickler against name similarity, but in your case I think this is fine.

I don't think it's a huge issue. You're right they could totally go by Liv & Ellie by the time they are older. If not, not an issue.
