Teasagh vs. lost cause vs. even old dogs learn new tricks

Teasagh is pronounced right between "tchessa" and "jessa." It's not uncommon in Scotland, and it's heard of Ireland, unsure of the rest of the UK's ability to recognise, but we're in the States right now. If Saoirse can be understood and Siobhan is fairly recognisable, do you think Teasagh stands a chance? We don't mine correcting, and we'll probably call her Jessie as is natural! Teasagh can also be spelled Teasag but does that complicate the pronunciation further?

I think that, unfortunately, in the states it is going to be hard to pronounce. I can see maybe (very hard maybe) someone coming up with something close to Tessa. But I honestly think that most of the time she, and you, will get a huge variety of mispronunciation and spelling. As a teacher myself, I would make every effort to learn it correctly, but it seems more common than not that people just shorten it or call children something close, but easier to pronounce. It shouldn't be that way, but a lot of people will not try no matter how many times corrected. My name doesn't seem all that complicated and it gets constantly butchered in pronunciation and spelling (I also live in the States). If I'm honest, I hated my name growing up because of this. I'm better about it now, but it's still frustrating! It's really up to you and how much constant correcting you and your daughter will have to do.
Best of luck!

I really love the idea of Teasagh. I think it sounds lovely & Jessie is too cute for words. Pronunciation will always be an issue, but my high school boyfriend was named Tadhg and eventually everyone learned how to say it. Teasagh should be not different. People learn. That's what makes our world so rich: exposure to new cultures, unfamiliar names, words, feelings. If we were all Brittany and Tyler because everyone can say them, we'd be terribly bored.
