Levi For a girl vs. Yes vs. No

Please read first! Usually we are not fans of boy names on girls but we really liked Violet but we just can't get past how close it is to the word Violent. We we were thinking we could name her Levi and still have the nick name Vi, and or Evie. We like Levi Rose. Wdyt ? Suggestions welcomed. Big sisters are Mona Grace (4) and Jade Noelle (2).

If you can't get past the word violent with Violet, using a name whose letters can be rearranged to make the word evil might not be the best idea. And that's before mentioning how it's high popularity on boys and nearly non-existent use on girls will cause people to immediately think boy with the name Levi. Some people don't like having to say, "I'm a girl" all the time.

Since you like names containing V, what about Ivy, Avalon, Verity, Everly or Maeve? Esme also comes to mind with names like Violet and Levi.

I agree 100% with the first poster. It seems such a leap to go from liking Vi or Evie to, "Well, let's give her a boy's name then force Vi or Evie out of it because some of the letters happen to be there." And I would double all that since you said you don't normally like boys' names on girls. So you want to get to the nickname Vi or Evie. How about Viola, Eve, Eva, Victoria, Vinette (I know someone by Vi and this is her given name), Evanna?

Agree with above. Levi is all boy to me and if you're worried about Violet being too close to Violent, Levi spells EVIl, so you're really not winning there. If you love Vi or Evie, I would look for other alternatives. I wouldn't use a name you don't love as much just to use nicknames you adore.

Thoughts on:

Vivian/Vivianne (Vi or Vivi)
Evangeline (Evie)
Genevieve (Evie)
Geneva (Evie)
Eve/Eva (Evie)
Minerva (Evie)
Via (Vi)
Vira
Veda
Vera
Vivivette (Vi or Vivi)
Maeve
Olive
Livia
Ivy or Ivory
Avia
Haven
Mavis

Honestly, in the end, use the name you love, but also think of what your child will have to go through with the name.

Good luck!

I don't think it sounds actually bad for a girl, but that's just me. I mean, some people don't like the name because if you rearrange the letter it spells "evil", but at the end of the day if you and your husband like it and want to use it, do it.

I'd just use Violet. It's sweet and the polar opposite of Violent. Once she's here all you will associate the name with is a sweet little baby. There are lots of girls named Violet currently running around and I doubt anyone is associating them with violence. You are way overthinking this. I definitely would not use Levi. So boyish. Everywhere she goes people will expect her to be a boy. She might even wonder if you wanted a boy. Hands down Violet is way better than Levi. Valentina could be nicknamed Vi.

Levi is all boy!

I love Violet, Genevieve, Evelyn, Ivy, Vivienne,
Maeve, Everly,
All have V in them and are much better for a girl

Violet is beautiful and I never even thought of the name violent with it.

This is vicious and cruel.

Maybe Viola, or Violetta?

I think you should do what you feel. However, it is true that I'm sure a little girl named Levi would get super tired of correcting people who thought she was a boy... What if you named her Levi-Rose (as a first name)? That might make it more obvious that she's a girl. Good luck though! And Vi is adorable :)

I think that Levi would be cute on a girl. My name is Codie and every time my name is called 99% of the time they think that I am a boy. I never got tired of saying that I am a girl. It just become second nature and never bothered me. However Violet is still really cute name for a girl.

Agree to avoid Levi to force a nickname you like since it isn't even your style and doesn't go well with your other girls' names.
Just want to add Lavender to the potential list of names similar to Violet. Not only the same color and also a flower, but the fun V and "Ev" sound you like.

You were wishing for a boy and got me instead. You named me Levi anyway. Why didn't you give me a girl's name just like my older sisters?
