Dorothy vs. yes vs. no
Is Dorothy too old? My Nana was named Dorothy and I would really love to name my daughter after her. I can't use my nana's middle name because it was LaUna (Lay-u-nuh) and I don't really like that. I really love the name Dorothy though. I just don't want to give her a "grandma" name. What are your thoughts? Thanks!
The Top Baby Name is...

Your question is worded confusingly. Yes Dorothy is a great name, no it is not too old (especially with the vintage names like Mabel all making a big comeback!) I would re-word it with Yes do you like it or No I don't.

Dorothy is wonderful. It's a classic that is ripe to make a comeback. Definitely use it.
I'm in my 50s. If anyone had ever told me in my 20s that Josephine, Hazel, Adelaide, Violet or Matilda would become popular I would have taken their temperature. Good luck! :0)

I like old fashioned feminine names for girls instead of the boy name trend.

I voted yes but I meant yes I like it!
"Grandma" names are actually what's popular right now.
A little Dorothy will have no problem fitting right in with peers who have names like Eleanor,Charlotte,Beatrice and all the other vintage names that are in again.

Yes means "yes, I like it."
No means "No, I don't"
Sorry for the confusion!

It's not my favorite, but I love the nickname Dodie for it
Love Dorothy. It was a contender for both my kids who ended up being boys :) Love the nickname potential for Dorothy too! Dot, Dottie, Dori, Dora. And as previous posted stated, it fits right in with the names on the rise. But I don't think it's very popular so she'd still feel like her name is original.

Its not my favorite, but I think the family significance makes it work. I also think its making a comeback with all the other older names (Eloise, Mabel etc.).There are cute nicknames she can can go by so it freshens it up a little bit. I personally like Dottie, Ro or Thea. You could always use it as her middle name and give her her own first name. I like when kids have their own individuality with family middle names. Thoughts on Luna, Elena or Laynie to honor your nana's middle name?

My son has a Dorothy in his class. They call her Dory which I just love! I think it's a perfectly acceptable name for a little girl, and I love that it honors her grandma!

I have never been able to love this name, or even to like it. It's hard to imagine it on a modern-day girl/woman. You can honor a Dorothy by switching the order to Theodora. Both names mean the same thing. I like the potential nicknames for Theodora better, too.

I love it! All the cute vintage names are making a huge comback so I wouldn't be worried about it being a grandma name. I love it SO much more than the -ley/ly/lee/lie/leigh trend and the boy names on girls names trend. Good luck!
