Delilah vs. Lilah

Hi. Help please. My husband and I have loved the name Lilah for a long time. When we mentioned this name to my MIL she said she loved it too but has mainly heard it as a short form for Delilah. We also really like this too. It got us thinking, should we use Delilah with the nickname Lilah, or go for what we first wanted and use Lilah as a given name. Let us know your thoughts..

Lilah is definitely its own name. Actually I don't know any Delilah's nn Lilah. You could do it that way but if it's Lilah you're after, just use Lilah.

They are historically two different names. Lilah means lilac tree and is from the Persian language. Delilah is a Hebrew name and means delicate or weakened.
I'd stick with your favorite name, safe in the knowledge that it is a complete name. Also I've not heard a Delilah go by Lilah, though I suppose they could.
*both facts taken from baby names .com , which does a really good job looking up the history and entomology of names.

Def Lilah on it's own, I think. I don't like Delilah as well, and Lilah is a name unto itself so there is no reason to make it into something else.

Go with Lilah on its own, although Lylah or Lila are my preferred spellings. Lilah is the name you have loved and if you are not totally in love with Delilah, it doesn't make sense to use it just to have Lilah. Lilah is a full name on its own and technically not a variant of Delilah. Its your child not your MIL's. Lilah is beautiful and it doesn't make sense to give her a full name of an already established full name. GL!

I like them both very much. Since Lilah was your first choice, go with that. But if I were truly conflicted between the two, how they sound with the surname would decide me.

I voted Delilah with Lilah as a nickname.
I'm sure I'm in the minority on this and I don't know why exactly but for me when I see Lila with no h on the end I see it as a name in it's own right but when I see Lilah with the h it feels like it should be a nickname only.
