We love the name Dolly but is it too nicknamey? We love Dorothy too but we would mostly just use Dolly if we named her that so we're wondering if there's much point with that?

The point of using the full name isn't for right now or in the next few years. It's for when she's an older child, a teen and especially for when she's an adult. She might be fine going by Dolly for her whole life or she might prefer switching to Dorothy if she feels Dolly isn't serious enough for her at some point. Or she might be okay with Dolly for everyday use but want Dorothy for professional use. I have relatives who have done both those things.

Dorothy, nn Dolly, gmv.
As a name hoarder I generally click the full name / nickname box when this comes up. Here it's especially important to give her a more adult option for when she's older.
I love Dorothy and Dolly is sweet. But Dolly is also like having a big "my parents didn't want me to ever grow up" sign around her neck. That's fine. She may be OK with that.
But if she isn't then I don't want to be you when she's older. Give her the respect of an option like Dorothy and everyone wins. Good luck! :0)
