Yes. I'm a little less flexible about nicknames than FredaCat, though I do see her overall point. If it's too much of a stretch, I can't get behind it. But I think this actually works just fine.

Lola works great for a nn for Penelope. While anything can be a nickname for any name, Lola is drawn from Penelope.

I think it's a stretch since Lola is already used as a first name with the nn Lolita. But to each his own, as there truly are no rules.

Although I would much prefer Penny and usually don't like nicknames that are a stretch I do think Lola is usable in this case.

Penelope (nn Doodle Bug) works well too. My two cents: nicknames are the place for creativity, whimsy and affection. They needn't be drawn scientifically from the full name. As picky as I am about a full name being classic and spelled conventionally is as lax as I am with nicknames. They are easily changeable so why not go for broke? Given all of that, Lola isn't a stretch at all. Good luck! :0)
