Do you want it pronounced Bridge-it or Bridg-eet? If the former, go with Bridget. If the latter, Bridgette.

That’s we’re thinking. But what do you define the more common way, to the more unusual way? I know anything other then Bridget or Bridgette would be unusal, but out of Bridget or Bridgette, which is more common? My husband and I looked at the polls on here, and they both seem to have a fair ammount of polls.

We’re prononcing it Bridge-it. That’s another thing. If we use Bridgette, instead of Bridget, will it be miss-pronounced alot? I used to know a Bridgette who pronounced it Bridge-it, and spelt it Bridgette.

I think I like Bridget the best, but I also have a friend who spells her name Brigitte, pronounced just like Bridget.

That’s what we’re thinking. But the thing is, is that our last name isn’t exaclty long or short. So does Bridgette make it more full-filling?
To: Kate09:
We really don’t like Brigitte. Has to many "i," sorry!

I have a cousin Bridgette who says it like Bridge-it. I don’t think the ette ending should sound like eet. I think it’s prettier that way!

That’s what we’re thinking. We really like the spelling Bridgette. And either way, it’s a tradition in my family to spell one child’s name differently. We’re using Bridgette Nicole!

If you are American, almost everyone will say Bridge-It, no matter how you spell it. I wouldn’t worry about the 5% who actually know how to pronounce the French spelling, etc. Choose the version that looks most symmetrical with her surname.
