Thoughts on vs. Niamh (Neeve) vs. Sadhbh (Sive)
Hi! I was hoping to gather some opinions on some of these names and spellings. I have no family ties or anything but I really love Irish names. As an American, they are unique and striking, but not too obscure or trendy. I feel it is a fine line between the traditional and Anglicized spellings of the names, though. I love the idea of honoring traditional spellings and that seems to make sense for a name like Niamh, but for some, like Sadhbh or Eilidh, it seems like it could be too obscure looking or create inconveniences. Thoughts?

I think Niamh is well enough known for most to know how to pronounce and spell it, less so sadhbh, even though it sounds really cool

Neither of those names will be pronounced right in America, I'd go with it for a middle name if you're dead set on it, but she'll hate correcting people her whole life, between the two the first one is the better option

I have seen Niamh, Aoife, Saoirse, and Aisling often enough on this site that I've grown familiar with their pronunciations, though I'm not as sure about the general public. I've also seen Aine but I would use Anya instead. Likewise some of the names ending in gh might not work as well like Shelagh and Clodagh. I've personally known Eileen, Aideen, Siobhan, Sinead, Colleen, so I think those would be fairly user-friendly in the US. So I think you could find a middle ground with an Irish name with an easier spelling. Or if you really want the Irish spelling of a tricky one, you could use it in the middle name spot where it doesn't have to be spelled/pronounced on a daily basis.
