Kyrie vs. Kairi
can't decide on spelling...
Kyrie has Christian roots meaning Lord have mercy which we like, we also feel this has a easier time being pronounced correctly...Kairi has Japanese roots meaning Sea which is so pretty, it is also special because it is a name of a character we both loved growing up before we met and after we were together, I do feel this spelling might be harder to pronounce from looking at and might be said Care-ee...either way we like both spellings we just can't decide
The Top Baby Name is...
Kyrie

I'd pronounce them both as KYE-REE, so I wouldn't worry about pronunciation.
I think Kyrie is the more common spelling, so she may have an "easier" time with this spelling. However I prefer Kairi with the nn Kai (Kai is getting quite popular for boys, so I think most people will know how to pronounce this name as well). Kairi also has a second meaning in French: "song, melody", which is a bonus!

I would say Kyrie like the Latin mass: keer-ee-ay. (like what you mentioned: Kyrie eleison = Lord, have mercy) Kairi I would say like Carrie or kay-ree. I think Kyrie is more likely to get k-eye-ree but Kyree or Kyrey would be clearer so I don't default back to my choir days pronunciation.

If it's a long "e" / "KEER-ee," then another option is a Maori feminine name, Kiri. New Zealand singer Kiri Te Kanawa is one famous bearer. And she had a short stint on Downton Abbey so the name is more widely known than you may think. Just a thought. Good luck! :0)
