Love Matilda. For a boy I'd use Matthew or Matthias and call him Mattie as a nickname.

I prefer Matilda as a name, however it might be more special to use Mallory as a way of not only honouring her but also fulfilling that dream she had! I think Lilly is a bit of a stretch & Tilly is much nicer as a nickname than a full name in my opinion. Did your friend like her name & was she proud of it? If not then I'd definitely go with Mallory as you know she loved that, it's also a lot less common & would give your daughter her own identity rather than having the same name as someone else. I do prefer Matthew for a boy though & then you could still use Mattie (or Matty) as his nickname :)

I have always loved the name Matilda. I like the nickname Mattie. That way she has a nickname seperate from your friend's name.
You could nickname her Ada or Ida too.

Matilda is hideous. Reminds me of the movie.

I started not to like Mallory as much when a student's father said he named her after a car part.

Why would the movie put you off? Matilda is a great movie, about an intelligent girl, if anything it adds appeal to the name!

Thank you all so much for the suggestions, kind words and ideas! We like the suggestion of Mattie as a nickname for a girl! I also like Ada too! I am not sure if whichever name we choose, most likely the other name will be a middle name. Her middle name was Emilia so we could use that as her first name as well, but I do have a close friend with this name so we could use it as a middle name,! We will also be posting a boy poll!

Mallory Emilia or Matteo Emmett nn Mattie

I think using her name, Matilda, would be the best way to honor her. Matilda Bay would be pretty!
