"keer-uh" vs. "kee-air-uh"

I'm really confused abut how to pronounce this name. I love it but I've heard it said both ways and I don't know which one is right or if both are okay. I live in Canada is it helps with accents or anything. Thanks a lot!

What's the name?

Kiera is the English spelling of Gaeic Ciara ("KEER-uh").

Chiara ("kee-AH-ruh") is an Italian form of Clara. I suppose in some regions that could be said as, "keep-AIR-uh," but I hope not.

If you are looking at another name then please let us know. For now, good luck! :0)

*Gaelic*

*"kee-AIR-uh"* (this one was autocorrect's fault)

Having known several people with several variations and spellings of this same basic name, I think you can pronounce it however you like and spell it the way it makes sense to you. I think the Irish Ciara (keer-a) and Italian Chiara (key-are-a) are the only ones the ones with pretty set pronunciations, but even then, I knew a Chiara who pronounced her name Key-AIR-a. So... 🤷‍♀️

I'm confused too! I do a slight mix of both, but mostly Keer-ah

Ah. I see now.

Ms Knightley is the only person I've ever seen with the Keira spelling. You've probably seen the masculine form, Kieran. It should therefore be, and has always been, Kiera. This solves the pronunciation too as "KEER-uh" is much clearer.

I forgot earlier to add that there's also Kira ("KEER-uh"). It's the feminine form of Russian Kiril, a variant of Cyril. If you're looking for "KEER-uh" then Kira is a really good option. I'm still rooting for Kiera. But Kira is lovely too. :0)

I'd say Keira the same as Kiera "Keer-uh." I went to school with a Kira, same pronunciation.
