Wells vs. Welles

I prefer the look of Wells and also because it's spelled phonetically but my husband likes the look of Welles better. First off are these spellings pronounced the same? I feel like Welles could be (mis)pronounced as like Well-E's(rain boots) which bothers me.

I prefer the Wells spelling.

When I see Welles, it makes me think of actor Orson Welles.

Wells! Anything "elle" reads super feminine to me.
