Skaia Grace vs. no way!
Hey all! My wife and I are welcoming our first child, a baby girl, in december. My wife has fallen in love with the name Skaia, and thought I had as well, until I saw the name written out (the spelling seems off). I'm having doubts, just wondering what other people think. We don't like other variations (skye, skyler, skylynn). All opinions welcome! Thanks

I love this name. I always suggest Skya as an alternative to Skylar/Skye - so maybe you'll like that spelling too. Skaia & Skya are both nice!

I like the sound of the name but I'm not a big fan of the Skaia spelling either.I was going to suggest Skya as well.I think it looks much prettier.

I guess I didn't associate Skaia with Skye until you mentioned it. When my eyes just run over it, I see Saskia. If I saw Skaia on paperwork, I'd have to ask how it was pronounced.
You could go with the regular spelling of Skye and give her a middle name that starts with the -uh sound. Or make it a double first name. Skye Adele, Skye Annora, Skye Alaina, ect. Something like that would be easier to wear than a name that would be constantly mispronounced and misspelled.

If I saw it written with no explanation, I would probably pronounce it Skeh-ah rather than Sky-ah

Personally when I look at the name I hesitate on hesitate on how to pronounce it. That could just be me though. I suggest perhaps changing the spelling. Best wishes!!!

I think i'd spell it skya instead. I don't know but the spelling of skya looks better to me than skaia. When I see skaia im not totally sure how to pronounce it.

You could always use Skyla instead, nobody would be confused with the pronunciation and it sounds very similar to Skaia

I know you don't like the other Sky names, but do you like Kaia? It's almost the same. Or maybe a first name ending in S with middle name Kaia? One of the options we considered for a previous child (but didn't use) was Amaryllis Kaia and I liked how the S blended with Kaia to make the "sky"/"skaia" sound. Alice Kaia, Janice Kaia, Elise Kaia, etc.

Grace Kaia would also have the Skaia sound. The only problem with that is that it could end up sounding a little bit like gray sky-a.
