Mila vs. Mill-uh vs. Me-luh
Hello. I thought I had the perfect name picked out, Mila "mill-uh." I made a name announcement, but didn't actually say the name outloud and all my friends and family started saying we can't wait to meet little "me-luh" it never occurred to me that Mila was pronounced any other way than mill-uh. Are both legitimate? Will she forever be getting her name pronounced as me-luh? I don't like me-luh at all....What do i do?

I've never heard Mila pronounced any way but Me-luh. Agree with the suggestion of spelling it Milla to get your desired pronunciation.

It's me-luh. You might be able to get my-luh out of it but that's usually spelt Myla. If you want mill-uh spell it Milla…thought tbh not a fan at all, much prefer m-luh

I agree with the others. I would automatically pronounce Mila as me-luh. I don't love the sound of mill-uh, but if that's what you want, then yeah Milla spelling is your best bet.

Mila is definitely "MEE-la". Your pronounciation would be Milla. I prefer it as a nickname, maybe for Emily, Emilia or Matilda? Good luck!

Everyone I know pronounces it 'mee-luh' so for mill-uh' you would be best to go with the Milla spelling.
Because the accent where I live doesn't pronounce the 'r' at the end of words, I would also suggest Miller as an option - however I know this doesn't work in all accents

Thank you everyone. i have literally never heard me-luh, I thought it was mill-uh. So I won't be using Mila.
I like Milla though, and the suggestion of Camilla nn Milla. What do you think about Millie?

I would automatically pronounce the name ME-luh, assuming it was the intended pronunciation. That being said, I know a little girl named Mila whose parents pronounce it MILL-uh. I often find myself wondering why they didn't simply spell it Milla to make her life easier.

Millie is cute. Camilla is pretty. They have different vibes to me. It depends on what you are looking for.

Yes, it can be my-luh, me-luh and mill-uh.
Lila is not typically lee-luh, as Mila is not ALWAYS mee-luh as some are suggesting.

I like My-la, as in Mila Bush-Hager. But I always think of Mila Kunis who is mee-luh. I would never say Mill-uh, but you could train people you know. For what it's worth my name gets mispronounced all the time and it bugs me enough my kids don't have names with that issue.

Change the spelling to Milla. Then the pronunciation you want is clear. Mila could be me-luh or my-luh, but I would not guess it was mill-uh.
