Noah vs. Noa

I don't know the gender yet but I plan to name my baby girl or boy Noah. My only problem is the spelling for a girl. I realize Noa is the feminine spelling but it looks incomplete to me and the father. Would it be a problem to use Noah instead of Noa?

I don't see a problem with either but I do agree that Noa looks incomplete, but it does look better for a girl than Noah in my opinion. Noah is all boy to me but that's just my opinion

I agree with the first poster.

I agree that Noa is more attractive for a girl. Noah just seems all boy to me.

Technically Noa is נֹועָה and Noah is an Anglicized version of Noach or נוֹחַ. In English we pronounce them the name, but they are different names with different meanings.

If the meaning doesn't matter to you, then go with whatever looks better to you in English. The ה at the end of Noa in Hebrew is sort of the same as an h anyway, so you can argue that you are just being more accurate.

As long as you don't have a problem with it, no it would not be. Good luck.

I would use Noa for a girl. In the same way Jona would be a girls name in many European countries and Jonah is a boys name in many English-speaking countries. They look similar and might even be said similarly where you live, but they're different names. If you go with Noah, then it seems more like the "boy-name-on-girl" trend to be "modern" and less a "this name represents my culture". If you're not a fan of the look of Noa, you could always do a different name like Nell or Nora or Noelle.

I know a little girl Noa of Israeli descent, and I believe this spelling is more commonly used for girls. However, if you want to use the Noah spelling for a girl, there is a Biblical precedent. See the book of Numbers, or this passage from the book of Joshua: "Now Zelophehad son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the son of Makir, the son of Manasseh, had no sons but only daughters, whose names were Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milkah and Tirzah." So you are completely justified in using that spelling. I am not sure who did the translation from the original Hebrew, but in my English Bible, this lady's name is spelled exactly the same as the more famous man Noah (Noah & the ark).

Noa Amalia would be gorgeous. I think it is very feminine and modern.

Noa doesn't seem incomplete at all. It's a popular Hebrew name for a girl. I think Noah on a girl would actually be unusual and confusing. So I vote for Noa for a girl!

I think if there is a girl's equivalent use it.
