Twin sister vs. name ideas for vs. Philippa (nn Pippa)
Hi, all, yet another poll for the Croft twins. (This isn't saying that I'm for sure picking Philippa, but just trying to get some insight.) I was wondering if anyone had any ideas for names that go well with Philippa (who'd be nicknamed Pippa, like Pippa Middleton)? Even if it's not your cup of tea, it is admittedly one of my favourites. I've received varied reactions from Americans to this name, but it's generally pretty well-received where I'm from in England.
Anyways, I want to find a name that complements Philippa/Pippa for a twin sister. My idea was initially Freya as you can see from my other polls, but idk completely as it seems people don't really like Freya. I want a name that makes sense as a twin set but isn't *too* match-y. My other name favourites are Genevieve, Stella, Vivienne, Ivy, Léa, Imogen, Maeve, Minerva, Athena, Shiloh, Eden, Celeste, Seraphina, Anastasia, etc. if that helps give you an idea of my name vibes. Surname is Croft. TIA x ❤️

I'm from the US and I love, love, love Philippa. I'm glad you are looking for a name to go with it (I was hoping you would 🙂). I'm not great at finding matches, but when you get a list of favorites going be sure to post again and I'll gladly vote. 😊

Although its not a favorite of mine, I do adore Pippa as a nickname. It's definitely hard to pair with. You don't want one name to outshine the other and I think that's the big thing with Philippa. It's a big name to carry. I honestly think Athena or Vivienne work well. Maybe Viviana. Give it a little more spunk to fit. Freya is nice imo.

Another U.S. Philippa / Pippa lover here. :0) I love Freya too, but when I saw your surname "Freya Croft" just doesn't excite me as much.
In addition to Mak's great list (the only one I can see so far) how about Philippa / Pippa Croft and:
Louisa, Iris, Miranda, Lucy, Jane / Jean / Joanna, Mary, Eliza, Theresa (Tess), Imogen, Daphne, Ailsa, Harriet, Ishbel, Margot, Astrid, Muriel, Glynis, Lorelei, Jacintha, Eirwen, Mattea, Cecily, Diana. Good luck! :0)

Philippa/Pippa isn't really my personal cup of tea, but nothing wrong with it.
Love Freya from your other names, but I think its too similar in sound to Philippa.
Of your other picks I like Athena and Imogen - Athena is my preference, but Imogen 'matches' Philippa better if that's something that's important to you
Other ideas based of Philippa's style are Edith, Diana, Sylvia, Beatrice, Matilda Harriet, Loretta, Eleanor, Rhiannon - some of these nickname well, if you wanted them to both have a nn

With Philippa, I like Matilda, Caroline (Caro), Veronica, Cosima, and Elinor. From your list I like Genevieve and Freya. Philippa does sound very unusual to most North American ears, but Pippa is really cute!

Genevieve would go nicely. Pippa and Ginny are matchy without being overly matchy. If not this option, I think another name with cute nickname would be a nice fit.
I think Athena and Vivienne go well. You might like Olivia, Josephine, Phoebe, Naomi, Catherine, and Samara. Good luck!

Pardon my American/pop culture ignorance, but is Pippa Middleton an actress? Some other sort of public figure? If she's tremendously famous across the pond then people might just associate the name with her, unless it really is more common over there. The only Philippa I can think of is Philippa Soo. The only teasing potential I can think of is that your daughter will get teased about Peppa Pig or Pippi Longstocking. That said, those are only minor things and not at all negative associations and I think the name Pippa is darling. Philippa not so much, but as you said, it's probably more common over there. You could also just forego Philippa and just name her Pippa.
Also note that not all non-British English speakers are American. I am, but there are many countries colonized by the British that speak English as well, as you know. Maybe they would be more used to the name too. Either way, it's only the UK you really have to worry about.

@Guest - Thank you for your amazing list of names! I'm very well aware that other countries were colonised by the UK, I've lived in Canada & Australia as well as the US so I hope you don't think me ignorant! My mother is actually from another Anglo-colonised country. Pippa Middleton is the Duchess of Cambridge's sister's name (Kate Middleton's sister), but her fame doesn't overshadow the name like something like Madonna or Rihanna would lol. I don't really worry about Pippi Longstocking or Peppa Pig just because Pippa is kind of it's own thing here. Anyways, I really appreciate your input. I'm glad you think I could forgo Philippa and go straight for Pippa because some people said she "had" to have Philippa there. I much prefer Pippa over Philippa tbh but thought she needed a "professional" name to use as an adult. But… I know adult Pippas and they're fine!
Among your beautiful list, my number 1 favourite is Cleo Amelina ✨ xx

I think Pippa works as a stand alone name!! But I can also understand the fear behind using a name that is traditionally a nick name!
Pippa and Maeve would be stunning (and tie together well with 5 letters), this would be my top choice from the names you mentioned!
Philippa and Winnifred are so sweet and I love Pippa and Winnie as nick names!
Philippa and Georgia are lovely! Pippa and Gia are so cute!
Philippa and Francesca with Pippa and Frankie?! More adorable names you can't go wrong with!
And then another favorite, Pippa and Margot!!
I think whatever you decide to use I would make sure the twins names compliment each other in length! If you choose Philippa, use a longer name for twin b that can also have a nick name! If you stick with just Pippa use a shorter name to compliment it!
Ultimately, imo, you need to love your daughters name above all else. If you don't love Philippa but love Pippa, there's absolutely nothing wrong with sticking to that shorter, sweet version. Keep in mind, first people will see Philippa and that has the potential to stick even if you plan on solely using Pippa! Pick a name you love and there will never be regrets! Good luck!
