Thoreau Rhys vs. Thoreau [Comment suggestion]
Big fan of philosopher Henry David Thoreau. Henry and David are too normal for me to use as namesakes. How does Thoreau work with favorite middle name Rhys? Nicknames Theo/Thor. Henry David pronounced it "THOR-oh" with emphasis on the first syllable but I'm reading that most Americans pronounce this name as "thor-OH" when used as a given name, with emphasis on the oh sound at the end like in Theo. I know Rhys Thoreau has better flow but I like Thoreau in the first name slot.

I prefer the Thor-OH way to say it over THOR-oh. I've never heard of the latter. That way reminds me of Zoro

I think that if you are going with the Thor-EAU pronunciation (which is what I have always heard), the middle name should also have a stressed second syllable to keep the flow.
Ex) Thoreau Sinclair
Thoreau Eugene
Thoreau Adair
Thoreau Maurice (another comment gave me this one)
Thoreau Monroe is cute but too rhymey.
