Imogen vs. Imogene

Sister to Cressida Eve (age 19mos). We're Shakespeare fans and love the name Imogen, which appears in Cymbeline. It has beautiful meaning – "beloved child". Can't decide if we like Imogen – pronounced IM•oh•jen – or Imogene – pronounced IM•oh•jeen (like Jean). The latter sounds kind of like "Emma Jean" but with an "Im" sound instead of an "Em" sound. Thanks in advance!

If you want to relate it to your love of Shakespeare, which I think the meaning is beautiful and the idea is sweet. I'd pronounce it the way it's pronounced in that reading. I've always envied people who can relate a child's name to something they love. It's a special bond. By going "outside the box" and using a different name than what is in the writing, it'd really be considered "just a name" and not really related to your love of Shakespeare, if you see what I mean. Please forgive my absence of the knowledge of Shakespeare. I'm not sure of the name or pronunciation in the reading, as have never read any of his writings. Good luck with your choice. I do hope this post does not come off as rude, it is not the intention.

Imogen gmv. Gorgeous and a fitting sister to Cressida.

Please, please, please tell me you have a pet named Abner. If not now, one day? Good luck! :0)
