Rafael vs. Raphael

My side of the family is Hispanic and prefers Rafael, my husband's family is European and prefers Raphael. Which one do you think is the more intuitive spelling?

I actually don't think one is more intuitive than the other. I voted Raphael because it's the more popular one in my area and that's how I would spell it but the Rafael spelling is the more popular one in the usa. The angel usually get's spelled Raphael tough so I think both spellings are pretty well known.

Rafael gmv. It's Spanish, so European. Not sure why your family wouldn't like it. Just remind them of Rafael Nadal, the Spanish tennis player. Good luck! :0)

^she probably doesn't mean south europe. I live in germany and the Raphael spelling is the more common one here. Europe has many diffrent languages and cultures just because something is european doesn't mean it actually is used everywhere in europe...

I voted for Rafael. I think the ph version is more common in my area of the US but both are known. I liked that he could shorten it to Rafe if he wanted.

I prefer Rafael for anyone with latin heritage because it shortens better to Rafe, If there wasn't Latin blood I'd go with Raphael, but Raph doesn't look as good as Rafe

Pick whichever spelling is more common where you live. That's what I did with a similar name and it was a good choice.
