Hi, I am writing this poll solely to get people’s opinions. My husband and I talk about baby names all the time, and we find ourselves saying that we can’t name our child a certain name because of his/her ethnicity (he/she will be half black/half hispanic). What are your thoughts on this? Do you think it matters? What are some universal names that you like? For example, names like Ashley and Michelle don’t usually stand out to me as representing a certain race, but names like Sarah and Jenna do (usually Caucasian). At the same time, we wouldn’t give names to our children that were specifically representative of our either of our races. For example, Jesus (hay-zeus, Hispanic) or Shaniqua (Black). I’m not sure if this is even making sense. We want names that are nice and don’t necessarily trigger thoughts of some specific race/ethnicity. Universal names. What are your thoughts on this? Do you have any name suggestions?

My husband and I found out in November 2009 we were having a little girl but unfortunately I had a miscarriage with her. At first we were sad but now I’m pregnant with another little girl and couldn’t be happier. We originally had the name Aubrey Skye picked out for our first little girl, should we come up with a name or name our child Aubrey. Please give opinion. Thanks

Joshua William (16) and twins Charlotte Sofia & Thomas Gavin (14) are getting a sister! We need some help picking out a name though. I like girly names that aren’t too popular! And her middle name will be Jane after her grandma. Thanks! - Emma, Will, Josh, Tommy & Charlotte

My sister is having her third child and I said I would help her out with names as her and her husband are struggling to settle on one. Everything that is suggested on this site will get back to her. They have Alice Victoria, 4 and Emily Clara, 2. She doesn’t know the sex of the next one so she will need both boys and girls suggestions. Names they have considered: Thomas, Michael, Matthew, Jack, James, Joseph, Benjamin, Oliver, Christopher. Charlotte, Isabelle, Annabelle, Susannah, Georgina, Olivia. Thanks so much! Ruth, Janet & Ian and the kids.

My husband and I are naming our son Jacoby, but when I tell people that, I get either blank looks or mostly negative responses. Its pronounced ja CO bee. What do you think of it?

My name is Mollie. I’m 19 and am meant to be going into my second year of university. Four months ago I found out I was pregnant with my boyfriend’s child and he has made it clear in the past that if this ever happened then he would leave me if I didn’t have an abortion. It’s been tough but as a Catholic I have decided to bring it up on my own. So I’m gone halfway through my pregnancy and am starting to think about names. I want something nice and traditional as I can’t stand trendy-sounding or unisex names. I want the sex to be a surprise so I have a list of names that I like and would like opinions on them, also any advice you have for me as a single mother (I know this is a baby name site but where better to ask for advice than from people with children themselves?) Thank you and I hope you can help me. Mollie x
